電影改編自日本作家重松清2009年出版的同名小說。健壹的女兒美紀出生後不久，妻子朋子就突然因病去世，留下了健壹和美紀兩人相依為命。妻子的雙親勸他再婚，並想把孫女美紀接到自己的身邊撫養，但是健壹還是決定以壹己之力照顧女兒。從托兒所到小學畢業，季節流轉中所捕捉到的，是單親爸爸的奮鬥和女兒成長中留下的足跡。盡管這十年裏，健壹的生活中出現過願意成為美紀母親的女性，但對亡妻的情感讓健壹遲遲無法做出決定。這是壹個講述“被留下來的人們”，和圍繞著這對父女的善良的人們之間暖心交流的感人故事。
